History of the Club

Nestled in the heart of Dallas, Northwood Club has been one of the region’s most respected private clubs since opening in 1946. Known for its championship golf course, welcoming membership, family-focused atmosphere and tradition of hospitality, Northwood has served generations of members as a place to gather, compete, dine, celebrate and feel at home.

A Historic Championship Venue

Featuring a championship golf course originally designed by Bill Diddel, Northwood became the youngest U.S. Open venue in 1952.

That year, Julius Boros, World Golf Hall of Fame member and three-time major champion, held off Ben Hogan in his quest to win three consecutive U.S. Open titles. The course was later added to the Texas Registry of Historic Courses by the Texas Golf Hall of Fame in 2015, securing Northwood’s place among the most historically significant clubs in Texas.

Course Heritage

Restored in 2017 by architect Tripp Davis, Northwood Club remains one of the state’s preeminent layouts, challenging golfers of all abilities. Lush fairways sprawl across 175 acres, winding through a valley of gently rolling hills and towering trees.

The majestic landscape features dramatic vistas of White Rock Creek, which cuts deep through canyon-like walls of chalk. Many restored features, including bunkers, greens and tees, reflect original Diddel characteristics.

Championship Golf Course

Northwood’s course is predominately grassed on tees, fairways and rough with Northbridge Bermudagrass, one of the leading grasses for the South Central region.

Bent Grass Greens

Northwood remains one of the few clubs in North Texas with bent grass greens, featuring 007 on its lush putting surfaces.

Four-Hole Short Course

Added in the fall of 2017, the short course provides a superb environment to learn the game and work on scoring shots around the green.

Caddie Program

Upon reopening the course, Northwood reinstated its caddie program. Walking caddies and forecaddie services are available.

The Northwood Experience

While Northwood is proud of its championship golf heritage, the Club experience extends far beyond the course. Racquets programming, fitness amenities, aquatics, dining, youth activities and seasonal events create a full private club environment for members of all ages.

Northwood has long been more than a golf club. It is a place where families build traditions, children grow up around the Club, friendships form naturally and members feel a true sense of belonging.

Racquets

From tennis to pickleball, Northwood’s racquets programming offers members another way to compete, stay active and connect with one another throughout the year.

Fitness and Recreation

Fitness amenities, aquatics, youth activities and seasonal recreation create opportunities for members and families to enjoy the Club well beyond traditional golf and dining.

Dining and Hospitality

Northwood’s dining experience is centered on hospitality, connection and time spent together, whether members are enjoying a casual meal, gathering with family, meeting friends or celebrating a special occasion.

The Terrace

With the addition of The Terrace, Northwood continues to expand its indoor-outdoor dining experience while creating new spaces for members to relax, entertain and enjoy the Club in a fresh way.

Family Traditions

Holiday celebrations, poolside gatherings, junior programs, member events and everyday moments all contribute to the community that defines Northwood.

Community

Generations of members have shaped Northwood into a club built on relationships, shared experiences and a lasting sense of belonging.

Honoring the Past, Building the Future

As Northwood continues to grow, the Club remains committed to honoring its history while investing in the future of the membership experience. From its championship golf heritage to its evolving dining, racquets, fitness and family amenities, Northwood continues to be one of Dallas’ most distinctive private club communities.
